By Isaiah Silkwood
You lean back against the wall, your favorite scotch in your wrinkled hand. It has been changed over the years, as everything in your favorite tavern has. The floor doesn’t squeak as loudly as it used to. The twisted wall panels are covered with fancy wallpaper. Even the patrons have changed. No longer is this the loud tavern that you used to sweep of broken glass at night. Now this place is filled with the low murmur of the rich. It is for vendors to sate their thirst or to drown their sorrows in the truth of their not so opulent realities. So is life. It all has a way of changing. You take another sip–you used to take swallows–of the cool scotch. Carbonated. That’s the word the barkeep had used. He’d said he was just trying it out to see if the patrons liked it. You…

What’s More Awesome: Dwarves vs. Therians in the Land of Delphia
From Isaiah: Hello everyone! Yes, I’ve been gone a long time and I’ve got some new news on my book. But first I have a very special announcement to make…My first ever Guest Blogger, Len Weatherly, will be doing this and the next blog with me! I’m very excited to get to introduce you to the world of Delphia and Len’s blog the Kraken’s Wake. Or as it is also known OliveLoft.com. I am now thoroughly hooked into his world and I just hope he gets his books published soon. I can’t wait. There is an awesome world to explore on Len’s blog so please go check it out. Today’s blog and the next will focus on the Dwarves and the Therians. Only two of the several well-rounded races in Delphia. Take it away Len! Tell us What’s More Awesome!
From Len: For many years my head has been filling with this magical realm I have named Delphia. The characters were locked away in the dungeons of my mind, until my wife chose to free them. Trinh has been the greatest inspiration for me in this endeavor, and I couldn’t have done any of this without her. I hope that my son, Ari, grows to know and love these characters and the world that I have created. Ultimately, the stories are for them. However, we have made the choice to allow all of you a glimpse into Delphia. We hope you enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed making it.
Dwarves: Dwarves are the unyielding defenders of Delphia. They are as solid as the stones in which they reside. There toughness and tenacity are known in every corner of the world. In times of need, the dwarves of Dundersnuff can be counted on defend what is right.
- Dwarf – a short and stout race standing around 4 ½ feet tall and weighing as much as a grown human. They are known for their teamwork and dedication. Most dwarves have long beards, and it is considered shameful for a dwarf to be clean shaven. Gladstone is the dwarf king.
Therians: There is a disease called therianthropy that causes creatures of any race to become infused with an animal spirit. This disease causes violent and painful transformations to occur within the creature. Everyone knows about the werewolf, for these creatures are common; but there are actually any number of creatures assuming forms of almost every animal.
- Therian – a creature affected by a disease which allows them to change forms into that of animals. There are two different types of therians; those who are born with the disease, and those who are affected later in life by contact with another therian. The therians who are born are called “true” therians. Jericho is the therian king.
Dwarves vs Therians: What’s More Awesome?
P.S. Len not only has a gift for writing but he draws too. Needless to say his sketches are the ones featured above. Check out the rest of them here at OliveLoft.com/Character-Sketches/
P.P.S. Book News! Of Pirates and Werewolves has now had it’s third and final edit completed. The cover is nearly done. We’re just looking over fonts for the title and I’m working on the back cover description. Things are getting More AWESOME! Thanks for your interest. Epic Duels: Twilight vs. Hunger Games.
A New Feature: Hello everyone. I’ll try and keep this brief. I am adding a new feature to my blog. This feature includes an awesome battle between the two sides I pitted against one another in the last post. I hope it entertains you. Without further ado I give you the Epic Duel: Twilight vs. Hunger Games…
Belle: I’d not ever devoted lots of contemplation to what way I would perish. But now standing behind my friend JakeAbs, with my boyfriend Ed lying on the loamy soil in pain beside me, I finally have. It sounds kind of nice. Because hopefully Ed will finally relent and give me what I want….a chance to shine.
It all started on the way to Port Angeles from Forks. We were riding in my Chevy truck because JakeAbs couldn’t stand to ride in Ed’s silver Volvo S60 R and Ed said riding JakeAbs motorcycles would be too dangerous.
I rolled my eyes and sighed when, 30 minutes into the ride, JakeAbs said from the driver’s seat, “Belle, you only like him because he’s rich.” JakeAbs would never understand me or what I wanted. That was why I liked him. Continue reading
What’s More Awseome: Hunger Games vs. Twilight
Why? There are two movie/book phenomena have swept the nation in the last few years. These are the Twilight Saga and the Hunger Games Trilogy. I have one reason for bringing these two fandoms together… We’re going to find out which is more Awesome!
Hunger Games’ Strengths: The story involves teenagers killing each other for our entertainment. We as readers are treated to being just like the Capitol. We love the violence and seeing the forced romance unfold between Katniss and Peeta(Makes one pause to think, we as readers hate the capitol so much but we’re just like them). Tasty foods are described in the book. That’s always a plus. Medieval weapons such as swords, bows and arrows, clubs, knives, spears, and tridents also add to the Awesomeness of this series.
Twilight Strengths: It’s about vampires and werewolves. That’s an immediate plus. It’s the second best romance I’ve ever watched. (Let’s keep in mind I haven’t watched very many romances. It beat out My Big Fat Greek Wedding but lost miserably to Letters to Juliet) And…. Sadly, I am unable to think of anything else good to say about the Twilight series. Continue reading
Epic Duels: Vampires vs. Werewolves.
A New Feature: Hello everyone. I’ll try and keep this brief. I am adding a new feature to my blog. This feature includes an awesome battle between the two sides I pitted against one another in the last post. I hope it entertains you. Without further ado I give you the Epic Duel: Vampires vs. Werewolves…
The Vampire: The full moon rises high in the black sky. The meadow, nestled against a cliff, deep in the woods is silent. The Werewolf bears its fangs, a low earthly growl ripples from its throat. The Vampire smiles. She knows she is more than a match for the brutish wolf. It has been terrorizing her small town for the past week and causing quite an uproar. Its actions have caused the locals to start asking questions. Questions that have ruined her fun. Worst of all, she doesn’t know where it came from.
She blinks and the beast is upon her. Its death bearing mouth snaps shut above her shoulder where her head had been a microsecond before. The long sharp claws come in low. She notices it too late. The Vampire leaps backward finding her side cut and bleeding. Continue reading
What’s More Awesome? Vampires vs. Werewolves.
The Bloody History: One of the first charismatic and sophisticated Vampire novels of modern fiction was written in 1819 with the publication of The Vampyre by John Polidori. Bisclavret by poet Marie de France One of the earlier popular Werewolf tales came out in the 17th Century. The first Vampire legend dates back to… Well the legend has been around for a while as has the first Werewolf legends. Most of the legends referred to not the modern Vampire or Werewolf, but demons or spirits that drank blood and had the ability to shape shift. Regardless of where the legends came from the point is these species have been dueling it out for our blood for a long time. Let’s find out which is more Awesome! Continue reading
What’s More Awesome? Cyclopes vs. Werewolves. You Decide!
How I know it would go down: A single Cyclops against a single werewolf would yield the Cyclops coming out on top.
We both know that this depends a lot on the size of the Cyclops and how many werewolves there are. I mean most modern werewolves hunt in packs. Let us define some parameters.
Cyclops: So how big do you think a Cyclops is? I’ve seen a couple that are about 30 feet tall. Take a look at some of the awesome art above to get an idea of what a cool Cyclops looks like. Continue reading
